THE TEMPESTModel Box / This design for The Tempest takes place on an original stage built upon the Monongahela river in Pittsburgh. The audience would travel from land by boat and be left on the rocks at the set's base. Each "tree" tower is not only able to move vertically to become a different height, but also serves as a video screen for moving images of Prospero/Ariel, Prospero's books, the banquet, etc. Prospero can access images of every part of the island by touching the images on these towers. | THE TEMPESTModel Box / Photoshop / Act I.i: After being left on the island, the audience is ushered through the maze of "tree" structures by images of Ariel projected on these structures. There would also be a video of the storm and the wreckage of the ship, accompanied by music, as the audience finds their way to the center of the island. Thus, in essence, the entire storm takes place as the audience travels through the island, and as they reach the center, they enter Prospero's sanctuary for Act I.ii. |
